Power Flushing

If your heating system is taking longer to heat up than it used to then your system could be suffering from a build up of sludge and could benefit greatly from a power flush. This is caused by the oxidation of the water in the system and is often the result of topping the system up with fresh water and the failure to add protection inhibitor chemicals. This issue can cause your system components (specifically the circulating pump) to work harder to heat your heating system. Not only does this result in higher utility bills due to wasted energy but in extreme cases can also cause components to fail completely.A common warning sign is cold patches across your radiators, usually at the bottom of the radiator in a half moon style template. This is where the build up of sludge commonly settles throughout the system. At Oakhill Plumbing and Heating we have a variety of tools available to us to identify a build up within a heating system. We can utilise our thermal imaging cameras to show us the spread of heat across a system and also tell us internal water temperatures to determine how efficiently the system is operating. In addition to our thermal cameras we also have chemical testing kits that measure the amount of contamination and levels of inhibitor chemicals present within the system.

Power flushing works by attaching specialist flushing equipment to the system to incorporate a large circulating pump, a dosing tank for chemicals and in some instances magnetic filters to trap the debris to ensure it is not recirculated through the system during flushing. Powerful flushing chemicals are added to the system and the system is isolated methodically to ensure each radiator is flushed until a second chemical test confirms the system is free of corrosion and the correct levels of protective inhibitor are present within the system.Oakhill Plumbing and Heating are on hand to advise you on the best solution to a struggling heating system. Should your system need a power flush then our engineers have the equipment and experience to provide this service for you. Please contact us for a free no obligation quote.
