Gravity fed system.

A gravity fed system can only work with a ‘heat only’ boiler and requires water to be stored in a ‘feed and expansion’ tank located at the highest point of the dwelling. Mains water is fed to the tank via a float valve and the boiler, pipework and radiators are filled using gravity.

When the water in the system is heated by the boiler it expands. A gravity fed system utilises a vital safety component called the expansion pipe. This pipe allows the water in the system to rise up and drop as it expands and contracts during heating and cooling periods. The expansion pipe or ‘vent pipe’ allows water to be discharged back into the feed and expansion tank in the event of an overheating issue within the system.

Pressurised heating system.

A pressurised system, also known as a sealed system can work with ‘heat only’, ‘system’ and ‘combi’ boilers and eradicates the need for stored water tanks in the loft area. It can also offer more versatile installation options when it comes to designing your system. The system is filled using mains water via a ‘filling loop’ and the expansion of water is managed by an expansion vessel. A vital safety component for a pressurised system is a ‘pressure relief valve’. This valve is set to discharge the pressure within the system externally in the event of an overheating issue. Pressurised heating systems are incorporated as standard in the installation of ‘combination boilers’.

Radiators.

The most common way of heating a home is with the use of radiators. Oakhill Plumbing and Heating have many years of experience installing and upgrading radiators to give your home that personal touch while at the same time keeping you comfortable in your home. There is a huge selection of radiator styles accessible to today's homeowner ranging from standard steel radiators, cast iron floor standing radiators to the designer style radiators that are becoming more popular due to the huge range of colours available. The main thing to consider when looking at radiators is the output required to efficiently heat the space you intend to use it in and the pipe sizing used to supply the radiators themselves.‘Undersizing’ radiators can result in poor performance once the installation is complete and can

often be costly to rectify. Oakhill Plumbing and Heating can correctly size, supply and install any radiator you require. Please get in contact for a free no obligation quote.

Another way to efficiently heat your home is by utilising a professionally installed underfloor heating system.
